During the summer of 2009 Karn Dhingra was a News21 fellow at Columbia University, where he reported on two very different charter schools in Newark, N.J. and covered the National Charter School Conference in Washington, D.C.
News21 is an initiative by the Carnegie and Knight Foundations to bring together the best journalism schools in the country to reinvent journalism education. Columbia covered charter schools in the context of changing demographics in the United States.

Hoardhouse.com was submitted as a multimedia masters project at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. The Web site explored the phenomenon and impact of hoarding in New York City with an emphasis on the people who suffer from this affliction.
Also, Hoardhouse won third place in the student category at the 2009 South Asian Journalists Association Awards Dinner.
The Web site was conceptualized, produced, reported and edited by Karn Dhingra, Jacquelyn Kasuya and Ben Piven.
